So if you're planning to live with a group of friends you'll need to finalise how many of you are planning to share and ensure everyone is committed. Then you need to decide on the all-important rental budget. If you're renting as a group it’s crucial that everyone's agreed on what's affordable and that you've factored in any additional bills; for example: utilities, TV and internet.

Once you've shortlisted which properties you're interested in you can book a viewing either online or via the telephone. And to make things more convenient we'll also try to organise your appointment so that you can view a number of properties at once.

• what furniture will be there when you move in;
• are there any maintenance issues that need to be resolved prior to moving in;
• what are the local amenities like;
• can you get super-fast broadband with Virgin Media;
• how much are the utility bills (ask the existing tenants or have a look at the property's Energy Performance Certificate).
